Dear El Caminito Firewise Neighbors,
Hope you are all well. Thank you for your interest in creating a Firewise Community on El Caminito. Please share this information with your interested neighbors.
Email update: I am sending this email from my personal email, but we did create a specific email for Firewise business, elcamfirewise@gmail.com. Please check your spam foIder for missed emails from elcamfirewise@gmail.com and add elcamfirewise@gmail.com to your address book. I include an important previous email below. I will be checking elcamfirewise@gmail.com every few days while I am away, and all future Firewise emails will come from that email address.
Next meeting is for the Home Wildfire Risk Assessment on Monday, June 27 from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This meeting is required for the Firewise application, and I encourage everyone to attend this educational event. It will start at the home of Grover Meyrose and Michelle Comeau, and proceed to five more homes for a wildfire risk inspection by Chief Kevin Kamnikar. The proposal is to move to a new home every 30 minutes. You may follow along to as many homes as you wish. We already have four homes volunteered, but if you would like to take advantage of this opportunity to get home hardening tips from an expert, please put your name on the Home Wildfire Risk Assessment Form that you can find on our website at www.elcamfirewise.com. There are already 4 homes that have volunteered, but we have room for at least two more.
The following meeting in July will be to discuss neighborhood priorities for fuel reduction including along our roadways, home hardening, grant writing, and educational activities. More on this later. I will be looking for volunteers from each neighborhood to host the July meetings. The discussions from these meetings will feed into the Firewise application which includes yearly goals for three years.
So far the suggested neighborhoods are
1) Via Milpitas, including the homes on El Caminito Road up to the first turn off to Chaparral Road
2) Chaparral Road
3) El Caminito Road between the first and second turn offs to Chaparral Road
4) El Caminito Road from the second turn off to Chaparral Road up to the ridge.
The Firewise fair was really great. I hope that some of you made it down there on Saturday.
I’ll be traveling for the next week but will keep in touch. Thanks for all your interest and support! We can do this!
